ATTIRE
Friday Welcome Party (Sangeet): Dressy casual.
Setting: Outdoor covered pavilion with space heaters.
Indian clothing is encouraged, but no means required. Below are some suggested Indian styles if you’re interested. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help!
Saturday Free Time on Site: Casual.
Setting: Outdoors or indoors (your preference).
Saturday Ceremony + Reception: Semi-formal.
Setting: Outdoors for ceremony + cocktail hour. Indoors for reception.
Guests are welcome to wear Indian or American clothing.
Sunday Farewell Brunch: Casual.
Setting: Outdoors.
WOMEN:
SALWAR KAMEEZ (sometimes called a KURTA) + LEHENGA: don’t require any special knowledge to wear. The scarf-like cloth commonly worn with these outfits is a DUPATTA. It’s up to you if you want to include one.
SARI: if you know someone who can help you tie it, go for it! Best to bring safety pins and allow time to put on. Slightly more constricting than the other outfits if you want to daaaance.
Any shoes that you would wear to a dressy casual event work well.
MEN:
KURTA: sometimes called kurta pyjamas, is worn just like a regular shirt and pants. We recommend wearing an undershirt if it’s cool outside.
Nice sandals or dress shoes work well.
SHOPPING
If you live near a metropolitan area, chances are you’ll find an Indian clothing store on Google or Yelp. If you’re new to shopping at one, let us know before you go (we have some tips).
Amazon and Etsy actually have lots to choose from. You can also buy directly from Indian clothing stores such as Fab India and Utsav, or rent (mostly for women) from Riya Collective. Most clothing stores ship directly from India, so keep that in mind when considering timing and cost.
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need help or want us to review before you buy!
